INTERVIEW WITH DAVE CORNWALL

Glad to be with you again, Dave!  What a warm and wonderful album cover for Christmas!  Can you tell us just a little bit about your new album, Merry Christmas, Darlings?

"First, thanks for the chance to talk about Merry Christmas Darlings!  For this album especially, I'd be very glad to share some of what's behind it.

I suppose that it all begins with the idea that Christmastime is a very unique time of the year.  While other holidays such as Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Veterans' Day, and even Valentine's Day, typically have one commonly understood meaning and significance for almost everyone, Christmas is very different in that regard.  How?  Well, for some, Christmas is a deeply religious season, bringing associations with the birth of the Christ child.  For these people, I created a few years back my debut album,  For The Faithful - At Christmas,  a very peaceful and reverent backdrop for the real and true meaning of Christmas for the more than 2 billion Christians around the world.  But, the religious and faith-oriented experience of Christmas isn't the only Christmas experience!

For others, and also of course many people who love what is embodied by  For The Faithful - At Christmas,  there's also another powerful and much loved aspect of the holiday namely, Christmas is that time of the year for celebrating!  And, socializing!  For everyone who loves and looks forward to the great, great fun of Christmas, I released  Get Your Nog On!  Get Your Nog On is certainly the background soundtrack to many an upbeat Christmas party and reunion of friends during the holidays.  But, I had to ask myself...is that all there is to Christmas?  Really?!

Well, and this is about  Merry Christmas, Darlings my answer was certainly, "no!"  For me, there's also a quite special and powerful aspect to Christmas that is all about wonders of family!  That "specialness" of "just" Christmas morning...and the wonder and the joy of those people, at that time.  And, the wonder and joy of those same people over time, year after year...all because of what?  Well, it's because of...Christmas!  Whatever anyone might say, the celebration of the 4th of July, or any other holiday, no holiday on our calendar holds the same multi-faceted meanings as does Christmas!

From  Jingle Bells,  the first Christmas song that many of us learn from someone possibly the closest and most dear to us, to Here Comes Santa Claus, the song that might best portray the excitement and great anticipation of the morning following Christmas eve,  Merry Christmas Darlings  really aims to capture the deep love that families all over the world have for Christmas.  And for me, these days, as I so look forward to our two oldest returning to the nest for our family Christmas,  I'll Be Home For Christmas  has never meant so much.  But, families coming together to visit, celebrate, reminisce and embrace at Christmastime, irrespective of which generation is making the effort and doing the traveling, is really everything, isn't it?

For all those who relate to  I'll Be Home For Christmas, or maybe George Bailey in It's A Wonderful Life, or even Scott Calvin and his little son, Charlie, in the Santa Claus, or, the wonderful original song by the Carpenters,  Merry Christmas Darling, now, for this Christmas, there's a whole new album...Merry Christmas, Darlings!  A peaceful, light jazz piano album and soundtrack for families, and family Christmases, that are truly timeless.

To everyone listening...warmest Christmas wishes to you and yours!  May it be a great, great Christmas for you this year and always!
